Satemwa TSFBOP1 is a broken ungraded tea with small, oxidized reddish fibers and silver tips with a neat twisted leaf. Grown in the red African soil of Malawi with fresh African rain it produces a sweet, rounded, powerful, thick cup with olive notes. The brisk, smooth, classic black tea flavor is well-suited for everyday drinking. The flavor is sharp and sweet-tart with notes of olive, malt, and wood. The texture is smooth with a soft, oil-like consistency.
Because the tea is composed of small flakes of leaf and fibres, it does well for blending with other ingredients, or blending together with other teas. It is ideal to drink with milk, sugar, and/or honey. Satemwa could take out the red fibers, but they love the extra dimension it gives to the taste and the pallet.
Satemwa TSFBOP1 is a Natural Dryer Mouth production which effectively skips part of the CTC process. A portion of tea is set aside after the Rotovane machine and mixed with tea that has gone through some but not all of the CTC machines - importantly sidestepping the final machine that rolls the leaf into tiny pellets. The resulting mix is rough and leafy, looking very different from a typical CTC tea. Inspect a handful and you’ll see broad chunks of leaf, small chop, wiry stems and even some stalk. The cup, is still incredibly rich with light touches of malt but with an exceptionally fresh, very natural and almost unfinished edge, albeit a very soft one leading to a smooth finish.
