Daughter Ring Tea (Nv Er Huan) is a green tea from Puerh, Yunnan, China. This beautifully handcrafted tea is made entirely from early spring tea leaves and formed into a ring. It is a very refreshing tea with a mildly astringent grassy flavor that is somewhat reminiscent of a Japanese Sencha. The grassiness is balanced with a soft nutty taste that is often found in white teas.
The most tender leaves are plucked in mid March from the Jinggu Large Leaf Arbor Cultivar. Upon examination you'll find that the underside of the leaves are covered in a soft down signifying freshness. Daughter Ring Tea undergoes a laborious production that is quite different than other green teas. Only the first leaf and bud are plucked and are left to wither slightly. They are then lightly steamed to halt any oxidation and are hand rolled lengthwise. After rolling the best leaves are selected and are curled around a "beauty stick" in the shape of a small ring. They are then pressed flat and dried in a special oven to lock in the flavor and preserve the unique shape.
