Our Blue Basket Cast Iron Teapot Set is made from sturdy cast iron. It has a matte cornflower blue finish and an enamel coating on the interior to prevent rusting. Historically during the mid 19th century as infused tea drinking became more popular in Japan, “tetsubin,” or cast iron teapots, evolved from being a kitchen item to being a status symbol used to serve tea. The inspiration for the basket design of this particular tetsubin draws from the incorporation of bamboo art and basketry in the Wabi Tea Ceremony of Sen no Rikyu in 16th century Japan.
