Arya Pearl White Tea from the renowned Arya Tea Estate stands among the finest white teas Darjeeling has to offer. Each year, the estate unveils a select few "tea jewels," and the 2026 harvest of Arya Pearl is a shining example of this legacy - crafted with exceptional care and representing the height of elegance, purity and refinement. Among premium Darjeeling white teas, Arya Pearl Darjeeling sets a remarkable benchmark with its superior quality, delicate character and artisanal craftsmanship, making it a standout choice for both connoisseurs and collectors. It is so much more than a white tea. It is a work of art!
Pearl is always beautiful, but this year when I opened the bag it took my breath away! This is the first tea that Arya produces each year and it still maintains its standing as the "creme de la creme" of all Darjeeling white teas. During the early stages of production, the initial batches of Arya Pearl Darjeeling were sourced from a lower section of the tea garden and, while visually impressive, they lacked the distinctive flavor profile characteristic of the prized AV2 clones grown in the exclusive high elevation Arya Diamond section. After carefully setting aside those early attempts, invoice EX-09 finally delivered the precise attributes and flavor excellence they were striving to achieve. They only produce 4 Kg of this batch and I bought 3!
Arya Pearl is 100% handcrafted using only the most tender and pristine leaves plucked from carefully selected clonal tea bushes at the peak of Darjeerling' s First Flush season. The least processed and most natural of all Arya teas, Pearl is carefully dried in the sun after having withered under normal ceiling fans for a short period of time. Absolutely no machines are used in its production, ensuring a truly artisanal process. The care with which this tea is plucked, produced and handled is evident at first glance. The leaf sets of two leaves and a bud are beautifully intact with very little breakage, which is incredible given that the leaves themselves are very light weight and delicate. The overall color of the dry leaf is especially green this year--much more so than in previous years--with an abundance of elongated downy silver tips., which is a sign of exceptional freshness, purity and quality. The aroma of the dry leaf is fresh, sweet and fruity, layered with subtle floral notes and rounded off with a comforting, warm, bread-like scent.
The infused leaf serves to reinforce the quality and care with which this tea was handled from the moment it was plucked. The infused-leaf color is a vibrant green. Watching Arya Pearl White Tea leaves unfurl in hot water is a calming, almost meditative experience. As the infusion begins, the transformation from dry leaf to wet is nothing short of mesmerizing. This visual transformation is as captivating as the tea itself. I highly recommend using a glass teapot so you can fully appreciate this enticing visual transformation.
The infusion releases a fresh, green garden aroma, reminiscent of the air after a gentle forest rainfall As the leaves gracefully unfurl in the water completely intact and flawless, a gentle, inviting aroma rises from the cup. Soft floral notes are beautifully wrapped in a whisper of fresh vegetal tones, while a faint hint of warm bread adds depth and warmth, creating a fragrance that feels both soothing and complete.
The liquor of Arya Pearl White Tea is as elegant and refined as its name suggests. Almost
transparent, it possesses a crystal-clear brilliance that evokes a sense of calm, minimalist
beauty, like a drop of morning dew resting on a leaf at sunrise. Its delicate pale-golden hue shimmers subtly in the light, reflecting purity, grace and exceptional craftsmanship.
On the palate, the experience is equally enchanting. The taste is light, naturally sweet, and
delicately layered. It glides across the tongue like silk, smooth and refined, with a complexity that surprises even seasoned tea connoisseurs. Subtle notes of white flowers, fresh herbs, and a soft honeyed undertone unfold in perfect harmony. A gentle, refreshing astringency provides structure without overpowering the cup, while the finish lingers softly.
Most first flush teas have a tendency to become bier if left to steep too long. Not so Arya
Pearl. As a maer of fact, I recommend using a higher leaf to water ratio (I use up to 5 -8
grams per 6 oz. water) and steep for up to 4-6 minutes at 175--185 degrees. There is absolutely no trace of bierness whatsoever. Arya Pearl can be infused up to five times using the same leaves. To do so, increase the temperature by 5 degrees and the time by 30 seconds for each infusion.
It is said that white teas are better in their second and third year as they tend to improve
with age. That being the case, we can expect this 2026 Arya Pearl to mature into an even
more spectacular tea (if that’s even possible!)
Origin: Darjeeling, India
Ingredients: Artisan white tea
Located in the foothills of the Himalayas of northeastern India, Darjeeling is renowned for producing the "Champagne of Black Teas". It is one of the four main tea growing regions in India and, at 6,000 feet, the highest in elevation. Formerly called Sidrabong the Arya Estate (which means “respectable” or “best” in the Indian language) is a relatively small tea garden that was established in the eighteenth century by a group of Buddhist monks, whose original dwelling is preserved on the property to this day. It is fully certified bio-organic and is strongly committed to environmental sustainability. The Estate actually has the distinction of having the first private hydro-power generator in Asia! As a small organic tea garden, Arya’s focus has always been on producing artisan teas of exceptional quality.
Brewing Instructions
Water Temperature: 178-185 degrees
Water Quality: Best with Spring Water
Amount of Leaf (per 6 fl oz water): 1/3 cup (rounded) (3.5 to 4 grams)
Steep Time: 3-4 minutes
Number of Infusions: 3
Our Arya Pearl may be prepared in a standard teapot, or in your favorite mug or lidded gaiwan. For best results, we recommend that you pre-warm your vessel, and place 3-4 grams of leaf per 6 oz of liquid, before infusing with 175-185 degree water for up to 4 minutes. (To get the most of this wonderful Darjeeling white tea I would recommend using a higher leaf to water ratio than you usually do and to steep it longer.) Arya Pearl can be infused at least three times. Increase the time and temperature slightly with each subsequent infusion. Experimenting with your own temperatures and steeping times is encouraged, especially with such a forgiving tea. Cooler temperatures and shorter times yield more mellow, fruity elements, while hotter water and longer times produce more floral and full-bodied complexities. Always use the best-tasting water you can find, and adjust steeping times, quantity of leaves, and water temperature to your personal preferences.
We highly recommend brewing your tea in a teapot or mug with a removable infuser so that you can remove the leaves at the end of the steeping time. Whole leaf teas of this quality need room to unfurl and expand in the water in order to perform their "magic." If you don't have a removable infuser, you can brew the loose leaves directly in the pot. At the end of the steeping time, pour all of the tea into a warm serving pitcher or pot.
