Muyu stone, also called "Muwen" Stone meaning "stone with grain of wood" or "Wood Grain Jade" is a precious stone found only in ChangQing, Jinan, Shandong Province in China. The stone originates from marine deposits from the early Palaoezoic Era approximately 500-600 million years ago. It takes on a brown color with a delicate texture that has a crystalline grain and beautiful vein, similar to wood.
Muyu stone contains up to 26 kinds of trace elements and minerals which are considered beneficial to human health. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties Muyu stone was used to make tea sets because it was thought that the stone would preserve the freshness, color, aroma and taste of tea over a prolonged period of time. Today it is believed that Muyu Stone aids in the prevention of hypertension and arteriosclerosis as well as having anti-aging benefits. Muyu stone is also used in water purification systems in China.
